You have the best MPV!!! Right transmision, right tyres!!! And is your MPV anyhow lifted up or standart? Anyway i am going to tyre (tire -in USA?) shop to check what do they have about this size for winter, of course with studs. In todays terms yours MPV is truly offroader, i think its much better off the road than BMW X5.

Poptop:
You can get Mazda mud guards for $15 a pair from Mazdastuff, front and back. The 96-98 will fit the earlier PV. Just a thought.
My tire outfit wouldn't put the large size on my 2wd because they would hit the front struts. Again yours look great. Mikem

1991 Mazda MPV 3.0L V6 RWD, 159,600 solid miles. Right now in the middle of tranny repair, and i absolutely hate being so close to losing it...*update*-the minivan has been sitting in my mechanic's garage for months now, and will only start working on it in the near future. I'm happy that I haven't lost the MPV yet, but the possibility of repairing it seems far away...

Do you have a shot from the front and rear to show fender coverage?

To revive this old thread, any problems with rubbing at full-lock steering?

Looking at getting some Michelin LTX M/S tires in this size.

No rubbing issues at all. In fact someone else on here went one size bigger and he didn't report any issues. They are a great size for off-roading and I never got stuck even in the softest of sugar sand in Anza-Borrego or Joshua tree. They gave me extra clearance in the rocky area's as well. Now that my kids are grown and I've gotten lazier I don't get off-road as much so I have gone even bigger with a friends CR-9 wheels. 245/50-20. These came straight off of his CR-9 and it did take a little hammer pounding and metal cutting to get them to fit, They do rub a little when turning and hitting any dips in the road. Definitely NOT for any off-roading, but I like the way i roll around town on them. If you live near Anaheim, Ca your welcome to try out those old 225/75 -15's. I still have them mounted and holding air in my backyard.

Thanks for the quick response and the offer, but I'm in Central NY. Was fuel economy or acceleration affected negatively by the slightly larger diameter of the 225/75s? I plugged in some numbers and got that the total radius of the wheel would increase 11.25 millimeters (slightly less than .5 inch) compared to 225/70 series tires.

While I'm asking, any recommendations for good tires that don't break the bank, have decent tread life, and are quiet on the road? I read a lot of positive reviews about the Michelin LTX (I believe it might even be the stock tire on the 1998 4x4 MPV) but they're available only in 215/75 or 225/75, not 225/70 like stock.

Thanks again.

In my honest opinon, I would recommend 235-75's. It is about the maximum size you can ram in the wheel wells and it makes it look more like a truck. I would even say it has improved my milage! Considering the speedo being off by almost 5% the true calculation has to be with a GPS. I average about 600 KM per tank which is around 65L ~ 70L per fill up.

Here is one picture, I can't find the other close ups but I have posted them on other threads about tires. Oh and they were about $100 each.
