A few weeks ago one of my family members hit one of our infamous Winnipeg potholes and blew both the rear driver's-side tire & shock. Crying or Very sad

Picked up a new shock from the dealer the next day, and found it pretty easy to replace, especially compared to a strut.

I'm considering checking with a wrecker to see if I can trade my 17" factory alloy wheels for the standard 16" factory alloys. I feel that the 50-series tire didn't take the impact as well as a tire with more sidewall would have.

My winters are 16" 55-series, and I really like them. They're close enough to the original circumference that there's very little speedo error.

Any thoughts on this?

What did you decide? I was wondering about the same thing - 17 kinda stiff for me but it looks good for sure.

aha -

I haven't taken any action on this yet, but should get on it before Spring.

I think there's a growing backlash against the big wheel/low-profile tire phenomenon, and wonder whether I'll have trouble getting 16-inchers.

It's worth a try for sure.
