I am looking at this link

http://www.mazdapartsunlimited.com/parts-catalog/mazda/mpv/2000/base/2-5l-v6-gas/front-suspension/suspension-components (particularly item 5) and this http://www.tokicoperformanceshocks.com/p-549-shocks-trekmaster-series-tohb3201-front.aspx

I am also looking at http://www.mazdapartsunlimited.com/parts-catalog/mazda/mpv/2000/base/2-5l-v6-gas/rear-suspension/suspension-components (particularly item 5) and this http://www.tokicoperformanceshocks.com/p-562-shocks-trekmaster-series-tohe4106-rear.aspx

Also, what do I gain/lose by buying performance shocks instead of an OEM shocks.

Why do the pictures for the front shocks (OEM/Tokoco) look so radically different?

tokico website is not showing the right picture for the front struts, instead it's showing the shocks for the rear. OTOH, mazdapartsunlimited is showing the right pictures.

tokico would be best option but at this point, no order of tokicos will be fulfilled since hitachi took over at least - i tried in the past couple months so i ended up with KYB.

i haven't installed KYB and compared them with the stock ones so i can't comment on that except KYB is much cheaper and it comes with warranty.

Thanks aha.

So KYB is cheaper BUT Tokico is the best.

So big question is: is KYB as good as OEM?

Apparentlty Tokico is better than OEM?

Tokico is stock OEM but not the same as Tokico Blues (I think for MPV it becomes Trekmaster later on since part# is the same). Also, if you go to Mazda dealer to buy they may not be manufacture by Tokico anymore unless those are old stocks.

The best bang for the bucks would be Tokico Blues when they were sold for $280 for a set of 4. However, to determine the best shocks of MPV if money is not an issue you have to go through JDM stuff which Novalight is a lot more resourceful than me.

On top of my head, here's some struts/shocks available in USDM:

1. OEM (not sure what brand at the moment)
2. KYB
3. Monroe
4. Gabriel
5. Bilstein (rear application only)
6. Sachs (rear application only)

JDM? What's that?

Novalight, what says you on this matter? can i get the blues or should i go OEM?

can someone compare KYB with OEM for me?

JDM = Japan Domestic Market (stuff for mpv in Japan)

It depends, if you want the best of the best you can go with Air shocks
not only are they the best in ride quality, you also have the ability to lower and raise your vehicle most companies with be able to find a universal that they can slap on your van.

what year is your van and what is it used for i.e. daily driver, family mover, Freeway Sleeper.

also what year are you looking at, certain JDM companies have offices here in the usa.

if you have an 03 and below you could get Tein Basic Flex Wagon, which is a complete system Shocks, Struts, Springs

if you are looking for just a replacement from USA
the list provided above would do just fine. most if not all MPV members who have gone thru the suspension debate have done the Tokicos. But since hitachi seems to have discontinued/halted them it makes it impossible to find.

if you know people who import autoparts from japan you have that option also.

OEM $98.80 X 2 = $197.6

KYB $91.93(L) + $96.97(R) = $188.9

Monroe $70.78(L) + $78.26(R) = $149.04

Gabriel $151.31(L) + $99.97(R) = $251.28

All except OEM prices sourced from Amazon.

So Gabriel is out of the question!

Question is what is the value proposition for doing aftermarket instead of OEM?

I can figure out the mount here http://stores.revolutionparts.com/mazdapartsunlimited.com/auto-parts/2000/mazda/mpv/lx-trim/2-5l-v6-gas-engine/front-suspension-cat/front-suspension-scat

but which one is the bearing?
