So far... I am hoping either the Japanese Mazda MPV or Honda Odessey will come to North America, but.... seems like they really don't want to do that....

and yes, for 7 seater cars, back then is very very popular, North America have some too. Nissan axxess, Eagle/Mitshubi space wagon (May be 1 Gen Oddessy?).... But those cars isn't that comfy if you are tryin to have a road trip...

Hyundai Entourage was just killed.

I don't have the details (yet), but a headline in Automotive News started with "Hyundai kills low-selling van".

...mmm my '03 Ody looks more and more like a (must)keeper Confused ... I'm hoping for a diesel gen-4 (if any) or the JDM version (if imported) when ready to replace.

The next wave of "minivans", or at least the closest we're going to get to it, might be the MPV class of vehicles from Europe/Asia. The Mz5 is already here but the first European one may be the Fiat Multipla if/when the Fiat/Chryster thing happens. I wish full-blown minivans from other countries would make it here also. The Toyota Hiace is a "real" minivan but our derrieres may not fit in the seating arrangement they currently offer.

The US is getting the next-gen of the Mercedes-Benz B200 that we currently enjoy. That thing is MB's #2 seller up here. Apart from the strong-selling Mazda 5 (also Mazda's #2 car up here), the Kia Rondo is selling pretty well. MPVs have a strong market in Canada, and the more choice we have, the better !

Ford is marketing its European TransitConnect in NA. It's for commercial delivery/service but I can't see why it can't be sold as a passenger vehicle too.

Yup, same as the Sprinter, I guess. Ford Transits and Vauxhall Bedfords were pretty popular in the 70's. Back then these were somewhere between a Ford E-Series van and a Chrysler minivans. Haven't seen one of the newer Transits/TransitConnect lately.

EDIT: So Madbrad made me look it up. This would be a first for NA.

AFAIK TransitConnect is not related to the regular, large Transit.
It is small, fwd, kind of like an Escort with a big box behind it. I checked one out at the Toronto Auto Show this year. The seats, door panels, and dash look like cheap 80s stuff. I don't think I'd enjoy driving it.

Yup, it'll be tough to trace the DNA back to the original Transit except maybe "Ford". But this class of vehicles have been very popular for decades out of North America. They're used heavily for city delivery. I still remember a version of the original Escort station wagons(2 door) having panels where the rear windows would be. My guess is that there was probably a similar version of my 2 door Fox wagon in South America.

It's a type of light-duty, commercial van that's very popular in Europe. I expect strong sales up here, with all the commercial versions I see of Dodge GC, Ford Freestar et al from light-duty businesses such as phone, IT, cable ... even the HHR panel is making headways. Not everyone needs a huge, gas-guzzling Econoline.

The concept isn't new : google up the Citroen 2CV cargo van ! Now, THAT's a cheap interior !!

The TransitConnect had a big presence at the '09 NY auto show. Layout of the vehicle looks promising with headroom galore! Doesn't look like a 3 row vehicle but its very spacious for 5 and I can see the commercial angle. Oh, the rear doors are sliders which breaks the latest standard swing door trend.

On another note, they had the HHR panel van on the floor.

I'm getting my masters(no, not a masters degree) and might start my own business, and this seems like an appropriate choice, and it has no competitors.

Sorry, what's a masters (not the degree)?
