I changed the fluid in my rear diff. the other night. Very easy DIY job if the plugs come out easily. At $14 a quart, I passed on the Mobil One 75W-90 oil and went for the Valvoline semi synthetic. It takes a little over 1.5 quarts to fill. The magnetic drain bolt had noticable metal shavings, but nothing abnormal.

I've been thinking I need to do this sometime soon - it gets a hard workout towing the heavy camper so I should respect its age!! Laughing Was it a squirt bottle with a tube?

Kiwi,
Yes I used quart sized squirt bottles. In the states, that is the most common packaging form. Capacity is 1.6 US Qt. You can't position the bottle to completely drain the whole quart, so I got as much as I could out of the first quart, then combined the 2 bottles to have roughly .4 Qt. left over.

The plugs were very dirty and carb cleaner would not even completely clean them. Let them sit in a solution for a few minutes and use a stiff brush to get the grime off.
