I've posted this in the electronics forum, but in an effort to get more eyes on it I'm reposting here.

We have an '00 MPV with the Mazda 5 disc CD player. When we insert a disc, the disc is immediately ejected and the CD display shows the E07 code. The manual recommends taking the vehicle to the dealership when this code is displayed. Does anyone know what this code indicates and what needs to be done to correct it? Thanks for your help.

John

Does that happen with any CD? Or does it happen with a burnt CD?

We've never put a "burnt" CD into the player, only commercially available CDs. But the error comes up with every CD we try to insert.

When the CD starts spitting out on the 2000 MPV, the reader is dead. There is no way to fix it.

You have three choices:

1. Order a new CD reader (not the entire headunit) from Mazda for about $350 for the single CD reader or $450 for the multi-disc unit. And remove the headunit, take it apart, and swap out the CD reader with the new one.

2. Rip the entire headunit out and go aftermarket.

3. Go to ebay, and look for a 2000 or 2001 used complete working headunit. Within a week or two you will be able to pick one up for anywhere between $40 and $90.

My recommendation is option 3. There is one on ebay right now for $9.99 with $16 shipping.

Also, the 2000 and 2001 are compatable with your wiring harness, just plug it in. The 2002+ have a different wiring harness and are not compatable without cutting wires and splicing (which I don't recommend). So avoid the 2002+ radios. Stick with a 2000 or 2001 model. Also, the multi CD units don't come up very often on ebay, and the price usually gets jacked up on those in the final bidding. But the single CD units are plentiful on ebay. You don't need to get the multi CD unit, you can get the single CD unit and plug and play with that, and it would be much cheaper.
