RDClark,

The wires that are already there are not a "standard" connection, but the Circuit City store in my neighborhood sells and "adaptor" that would work so you don't have to splice the wires. I was checking this out the other day for my future plans.

Geez...fading out the rear causes front tweeters to turn off...yuck...I was going to add a couple tweeters up front to my standard 4 speak system, but since I only get to listen to my music when the kids are asleep and must fade the stereo to the front, this is now a no - go.

Anyway to keep the tweeters going when you fade the stereo to the front ?

What? No, the front tweeters are tied to the front system and the rears are tied to the rear system, along with the subwoofer. So, fading to the front will allow the front tweeters to still function, but not the sub.

How do the balance and faders work with the nine speakers? We have the four speaker system, and I am often turning off speakers so people can sleep without a speaker right next to them playing. Can you do this with the nine speaker system? or a 4< speakers<9 if one added speakers, but not all the way up to nine?

When you fade the rear speakers, all five (tweeters, rear speakers and subwoofer) are muted.

Oh great...this makes more sense...I misunderstood Alex's answer above...guess he was referring to rear tweeters...thanx...great news

Pardon my ME TOO ! I want to drop in some dash tweeters...was hoping someone could suggest a pair that fit and come with reasonable looking grills (is matching grey too much too much to ask ?).

Reasonable price is a relative term. You might try to check http://www.crutchfiled.com and look for tweeters to get an idea of what is out there. My local Circuit City sells one and only one set of tweeters as a separate non-component item. It is a Polk tweeter for $99 which seems a little bit high to me. The component sets they have come with 6 1/2" mains, which don't fit.

Most tweeters come in black, but a visit to Home Depot or Lowe's might yield a can of matching spray paint. You could then paint the grilles to match.

Does Mazda sell the dash tweeters through its dealers?

They probably do but those tweeters are not worth the money you'd be paying for them. Just get some aftermarkets at your locale store or shop online at Etronics or Crutchfield.
