Well, an on-again/off-again trip to Rushmore is now 'on.' We're driving from Denver on Sunday and spending the week in Rapid City, SD... Mrs. Java has continuing ed classes in the mornings, so we'll be having fun in the afternoons.

SO... any pointers for cool things to do, things to see, either there or along the way? I mean, even "the World's Largest Ball of Twine," type of stuff would be fun. So, let me know what's around there in western SD if anyone knows!

I'm sure that I'll take scores of photos, and promise to post them up here. So, give me your ideas for stuff to do, folks!

Man, Java, it is a wonder we didn't run into you on the road. We hit the Badlands in SD, but skipped Rushmore as we had been there before.

World's largest ball of twine--we have seen the one in Cawker City, Kansas. There is another one somewhere in Minnesota, but we haven't seen that one--yet. Which one is bigger depends on how you measure.

Hope your trip was (or still is if you haven't gotten back home yet) a good one!

Not the world's largest twine ball, but still an interesting novelty

Now that is something to pull over for! We had a great time in SD. We went home on a more easterly route, and hit some of Nebraska. Yeahhhhh... I have to say there was nothing to see there.

It was a good trip though, and the XC90 got 25mpg (it's rated 15city/20hwy), so it didn't break the bank! I have some photos, that I'll post when I get some time....

...I've been busy tiling the bathroom in the basement. Wow, what a job. I'm just about done now though, and I'll have to post that up too. I figure I'll be done and ready for grout by the weekend.

Is there anything else to do within the vicinity of Rushmore? We're trying to figure out a summer vacation.
