Yep, that was it. Paid $260 for fan control module, including labour. Didn't go through Mazda dealership, so I suppose I can't claim it.

I had this fuel smell issue. Turns out my fuel tank was corroded and the seams had split, dripping fuel on my driveway. I took it to Mazda dealer. Cost $1,000 for new tank and fuel pump.

Indeed. The coils on my 1969 Triumph T100S are the original items, and they're over 40 years old. Come on Mazda, either fix this this issue or my next car won't be yours.
